Shang A Lang

Shoogly Peg Productions proudly presents…

After the success of his take on the hit musical “AMERICAN IDIOT” Director Derek Douglas is back and ready to take on the the Musical “AND THEY PLAYED SHANG A LANG”.

Shang-a-Lang returns after its fifth year in the success in the Edinburgh Festival! This is what life was like growing up in 70s Edinburgh. Told through laughter, tears and music, we follow Jim’s life as he negotiates the stormy waters of 70s adolescence. From school playground to school disco we witness his life through his eyes as it unfolds around him. Witness his first encounters with death and his stumbling dealings with the opposite sex. This production has it all! A strong young cast brings this story to life with a verve and energy that will leave you crying out for more.

We are holding auditions on Monday 12th September 2016 in search of only thirty hopeful cast members to help us put together this musical which will be performed the first week of December this year. We ask that due to the nature of the show we invite ages 15 and upwards to audition only. Auditions will take place at St Thomas of Aquins High school in Edinburgh from 6 oclock and will go on until 9 oclock.

We ask that you prepare 1-2 minutes of a chosen song preferably from the 70’s. Please bring your own backing track as there will not be a pianist available at your audition on the day. You may bring your backing track on either CD, phone, ipad, ipod, tablet or laptop. Remember we will only hear a maximum of two minutes of your audition song so make sure to pick the section of the song that shows of your voice the most.

As well as a prepared monologue in an Edinburgh Dilect lasting no longer than 2 minutes

The audition process will also consist of a basic movement class and an acting class with director Derek Douglas.

We welcome anyone into the auditions no matter what level of experience you have, all that we ask is you come along and give it your best shot! Please also note that should you be offered a place in the cast of Shang a Lang that fee’s do apply. Your experience will be over two terms so you will be paying for two seperate terms during your time in the cast. All fees will be discussed at the auditions with Director Derek Douglas. We as a theatre company will always aim to provide as much support for you no matter what your financial circumstaces are, so come along to the auditions first and we will be happy to discuss this further with you all.
